Dear John,

Today, NIAC, Iranian American Bar Association and PAAIA publicly called on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release 59-year-old Iranian scientist Dr. Sirous Asgari

Dr. Asgari is just one of many detainees being held by ICE in squalid conditions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with little to no soap or sanitizer, no social distancing, no laundry services, and no hygienic supplies like masks.

Dr. Asgari, who suffers from respiratory problems, is being held indefinitely in these conditions in Louisiana even though he has asked to either be deported back to Iran or released back to his family in the United States. The longer he remains in this limbo, the greater the risk of contracting a fatal case of COVID-19.

The solution is clear: ICE must release Dr. Asgari and all unjustly detained immigrants NOW. Our coalition of Iranian-American organizations are supporting Dr. Asgari's family's efforts to free him and you can add your voice.

Sign the petition today!

From the moment someone is inhumanely put in immigration detention, their health begins to deteriorate. This problem is amplified amid COVID-19. There is no time to waste, so I hope you can join us in the call to free Dr. Asgari.

In solidarity,

Donna Farvard
