Take Action: Language Access in Health Care
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers scholarships and loan repayment for health care providers who commit to working in underserved communities. Through community health centers, NHSC providers offer no- or low-cost care to millions across the country, including immigrant families. The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which administers the NHSC recently has proposed a loan repayment incentive for Spanish-proficient providers–an exciting and welcome development! Unfortunately, though, these are not available to providers who speak other languages.
Our partners at the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations are coordinating an organizational sign-on letter [[link removed]] urging HRSA to expand eligibility beyond Spanish. Since nearly 40% of individuals with low English proficiency speak a language other than Spanish, this change would meet a significant language access need. We encourage you to sign on before the June 3 deadline .

Webinar: Immigrants and Housing Narratives
Conversations about immigration and homelessness are overly simplified and often pit different groups in need of housing against each other. Our partners at the National Low Income Housing Coalition shared a related webinar that we’d encourage you to join if you can. The Housing Narrative Lab will talk with two top-notch journalists – Abdallah Fayyad of Vox and Anna Patrick of the Seattle Times – about how they embed the systematic causes and human-centered stories into their reporting on asylum, immigration, housing and homelessness. Use the link below to register for the June 12, 12:30 PM EDT webinar.
