Dear John,
The 2024 Europe Liberty Forum was a great success, with over 274 attendees joining us to connect and share best practices to advance human dignity.
The event culminated Friday night with the presentation of the 2024 Europe Liberty Award.
The award recognizes the organization that made the biggest contribution to advancing liberty this past year.
I’m excited to share with you that the 2024 Europe Liberty Award winner is the Institute for Market Economics (IME), our partner in Sofia, Bulgaria.
IME has been working to rein in the powers of the Prosecutor General, a kind of government official within the justice system that enjoys Soviet-era authority making them virtually immune to accountability.
They have the power to unilaterally interfere in matters outside of criminal law, creating an unstable environment for Bulgarians hoping to start and operate businesses.
IME proposed the most ambitious solution to curbing the powers of the Prosecutor General and introducing oversight and accountability.
They proposed a constitutional amendment.
It took four years of work, but it passed the Bulgarian National Assembly this past December.
IME is one of our most successful partners, going from a startup sustained by small grants and donations, to smashing Soviet-era corruption and winning the 2024 Europe Liberty Award.
Read more about their signature win and learn why they’re really just getting started.
