Hey, my team is stressed about reaching our end-of-month fundraising goal, so I’ve been trying to “dial-for-dollars” as much as possible before Friday’s deadline. But between Congressional meetings and votes, time is limited, and I can’t call everyone before the deadline. If you’re all in to help me win, consider chipping in to help us reach our goal right now! But if you need more convincing (no worries if you do!) read on…
If we were on the phone right now, though, here’s how our conversation might go:
Hey! Raul here, checking in before my end-of-month Congressional re-election fundraising deadline on Friday to see if you could chip in $10. I’m on the ballot again this November, and could really use your support.
There are a lot of members of Congress…remind me, where do you represent?
California! I was raised in a trailer in the Coachella Valley in the District, the son of hardworking farmworkers. After UCLA and Harvard Medical School, I came back home and helped open the first and only low-income clinic for the uninsured and underinsured struggling patients in the area. In 2012, I ran for Congress because our representative was in the pocket of special interests while my patients in the ER and neighbors were in need of a real advocate in Congress. Political insiders said we didn’t have a shot — but I flipped that seat blue. Now, I represent Imperial County, and parts of Riverside County and San Bernardino County, the Southeast corner of California.
OK, that’s a cool story.
But, what have you done in Congress to deserve another term?
I’ve protected Medicare and Social Security, passed laws to modernize Medicaid and expand access to home health services, and introduced legislation to support small businesses, promote humanitarian standards, and help families of fallen public safety officers get back on their feet. Recently, I secured bipartisan support for transitioning the military away from the use of toxic burn pits and resources for our veterans who have been harmed by them.
Who are you running against?
I have a MAGA Republican opponent who wants to ban abortion, touts conspiracy theories about climate change and COVID, and says January 6 was not an insurrection.
For the record, I’m 100% pro-choice, believe in science, and I was there on January 6 when my life was saved by our Capitol Police officers, so I can confidently say it was an insurrection.
Sounds like we need you to win, then.
If I chip in $10, what will it be spent on?
Right now, my team needs to buy clipboards for volunteers and order yard signs! We also need to be ready to pay for more expensive items this fall, like TV ads and mailers.
So what do you say? Can I count on you to chip in $10 before Friday’s deadline?→
Thanks for taking the time to talk with me,
Raul
