John,
Organizing in Texas is hard work, as you know. The political context is oppressive. The distances between communities are massive. And increasingly, the weather is near impossible to endure.
Today, unfortunately, our dozens of Dallas organizers are home, due to a county-wide state of emergency. This was caused by a recent storm front that triggered tornadoes, dropped baseball-sized hail, and caused massive power outages across the city.
John, some things are just taken for granted in Texas. The summers are hot and the Dallas winters bring ice storms — these things are known. But there’s no way we could have predicted that our campaign leadership would be surviving a multi-day power outage during the last month of our signature gathering campaign.
We know that if we succeed in our work—and put marijuana reform on the November ballot in Dallas—that great things are possible. We have a broad coalition and countless community members who are counting on us to succeed. But it just got a lot harder, thanks to the weather.
With perseverance,
Ground Game Texas
