John,
Once again, we want to express our profound gratitude to all the supporters like you who committed your time, voice, and money to help pass the ranked choice voting local option bill this legislative session. While we did not get the outcome we hoped for, we came closer than ever before—falling just two votes shy on the House floor! Our steadfast presence at the Capitol and our efforts in contacting legislators made a significant impact. With your help, we have laid a strong foundation of coalition partners and key stakeholders. Please stay engaged, as our work continues and we have a plan to succeed!

Next Up: Our Candidate Program
Like two years ago, FairVote MN has launched a 2024 candidate program designed to spotlight legislative candidates who support ranked choice voting. This year, the MN House seats are all up for election in addition to potential Senate special elections. This program will also assist with door knocking in targeted districts to help achieve a majority of RCV supporters in the state legislature. FairVote is awarding democracy badges to all candidates who support RCV, and the list will be available on our website and Facebook page soon. Be sure to ask all the candidates in your district about RCV – hearing from constituents is the most powerful way to build the support we need at the legislature.
Starting in June, we will need your help with door knocking throughout the summer and fall. Let us know if you’re willing to assist!

If you’re not able to door knock, please consider making a donation [[link removed]] to help fund this important work. We can’t pass RCV legislation without pro-RCV legislators.

Here We Go Again: Potential RCV Repeal in Bloomington
RCV foes are not giving up. A couple of years ago, RCV opponents in Bloomington collected petition signatures to put an RCV repeal question on the ballot. Their effort failed because part of their petition was illegal. Now, they are out knocking on doors and collecting signatures again, aiming to put a repeal question on the Bloomington ballot this November.
Their anti-RCV allies in Minnetonka attempted the same last year and failed miserably, with 59% of Minnetonka voters opting to keep RCV. But that hasn't stopped them. In fact, efforts to repeal and ban RCV are happening nationwide, and the Bloomington opponents are part of this national movement to roll back pro-democracy reforms.
There have been two RCV elections in Bloomington so far, both of which have been a huge success. Voters have more choices, voter turnout has increased, and tax dollars are being saved by not holding a low-turnout summer primary. Plus, polls show that Bloomington voters like it!
With your help, we are prepared to save RCV in Bloomington, just as we did in Minnetonka last year. Stay tuned for important updates and be ready to help should RCV be back on the ballot in Bloomington.
