Folks,

I’m fighting hard to get a comprehensive Farm Bill over the finish line, but I’ve got to be honest, the bill that’s been proposed by Chairman Thompson fails working families across the heartland. The majority and the members in power are playing favorites and partisan politics with critical federal dollars that farmers and everyday families across Illinois need.

This bill put forth by the majority undermines the significant investments that House Democrats made in our climate policy by moving back the goalposts on our conservation goals and privatizing SNAP benefits and cutting back nearly $30 BILLION from the program over the next ten years. This would impact over 55,000 families in the 13th District alone.

I cannot support a bill that fails the farmers and families I’ve been advocating for throughout this entire process. I’ll continue to remain deeply engaged as I push for changes to this bill and advocate for a bipartisan compromise that actually has a chance of passing both the House and Senate.
