Great news: South Dakota’s top-two primary election measure officially qualified last week, making it the second state with a nonpartisan primary initiative on the ballot this November. This marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to abolish party primaries nationwide.
This success in South Dakota is a testament to the hard work and dedication of South Dakota Open Primaries. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in making this possible. Unite America is proud to have supported this initiative to create a more functional and representative democracy.
Seven states, including Idaho, Colorado, and Montana, are actively pursuing similar primary reforms this year. This growing momentum underscores the nationwide desire to move beyond party primaries and ensure that every voter's voice is heard.
The stakes are high for primary reform in 2024. If successful, these measures will grant millions of voters, particularly independents, the right to participate in primary elections and help liberate 45 members of Congress from the restrictive bounds of party primaries.
As a philanthropic venture fund, we will continue investing resources in state campaigns and national organizations to foster a more functional and representative government. To further this work, you can contribute to our fund here— 100% of your contributions will be regranted to the partners in our portfolio leading these critical initiatives.
We look forward to sharing more victories with you in the future.
Onward,
