Hear first-hand about the debt crisis in Ghana

It was great to see so many of you at last weeks’ Debt, colonialism and power event. I found hearing from debt campaigner Bernard Anaba about the situation in Ghana, where people are living through a debt crisis right now, particularly moving.

It’s easy to reduce huge issues like the debt crisis to mere facts and figures. And while it’s important to understand the scale of the what’s happening, it can be easy to forget the direct impact it’s having on millions of people’s lives.
As Bernard explained so passionately on the call:
** “From the colonial era until now, Ghana has had to look externally for permission to go in any direction, ultimately serving the rich rather than the people of Ghana themselves”.

With an election date now set, we have a key opportunity to really raise the pressure for a new debt justice law that could get debt cancelled for countries like Ghana.
Action in the UK could have a profound impact– because 90% of the debts owed by lower income countries to banks, hedge funds and oil traders are overseen by UK law!
