U.S. Access Board Webinar: Title II ? Accessibility for State and Local Government Funded Facilities
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has five ?Titles?, that provide different protections for people with disabilities. Title II of the ADA specifically covers Public Services provided by any state or local government. As a tax funded entity, there are more accessibility requirements than expected of private entities or businesses. During this webinar on Thursday, June 6 from 2:30 ? 4:00 p.m. (ET), Access Board Accessibility Specialists will review what the different accessibility laws are, how they apply, and compare how the requirements for state or local government entities differ than those in the private sector. In addition to these concepts, the accessibility specialists will cover a broad overview of key components that are likely to apply to government funded spaces, such as accessible routes, toilet rooms, and counters.
For more information or to register, visit Great Lakes ADA Center?s Title II ? Accessibility for State and Local Government Funded Facilities webinar webpage. All webinars include video remote interpreting (VRI) and real-time captioning. Questions can be submitted in advance of the session or can be posed during the live webinar. Webinar attendees can earn continuing education credits. The webinar series is hosted by the ADA National Network in cooperation with the Board. Archived copies of previous Board webinars are available on the site.

This information is from the US Department of Justice (DOJ). The small guide mentioned is not a file to be downloaded and saved or shared. It is a series of website pages on which information is shared. Please feel free to share.

Today, the Department published a Small Entity Compliance Guide to help people who work for or with small state or local governments understand the new web content and mobile application (app) accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

This guide follows the recent publication of a final rule (this file is too big to attach to this message) to improve web and mobile app access for people with disabilities. The rule clarifies how state and local governments can meet their existing ADA obligations as many of their activities move to the digital space. The rule adopts a technical standard for web and mobile accessibility to ensure that people with disabilities can better access important public services like health care, voting, and education.

To find out more about the ADA, visit ada.gov or call the Justice Department?s toll-free ADA information line at 1-800-514-0301 (voice) or 1-833-610-1264 (TTY).

This information is from the Job Accommodation Network (JAN). JAN has been helping employers find accommodations for their employees with disabilities for three decades. This information is stored and shared with employers to this day. Askjan.org is a good link to keep if you need to find an accommodation for an employee with a disability. It is free and they will provide you with the name and contact information of the employer who provided the accommodation so you can talk to them about how effective it was and how easy it was to provide.

Dear JAN Newsletter Subscribers:

The May edition of the JAN Newsletter focuses on mental health conditions in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. The theme this year is ?Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World.? The toolkit is attached below. For people with mental health conditions who are working age, job accommodations may be key to success in the workplace. JAN offers resources to help, including topical publications and A to Z accommodation ideas at AskJAN.org and free one-on-one consultations.
