Did you know, John, that wetlands are one of the best tools we have to protect our communities from flooding? In fact, just one acre of wetlands can store up to 1.5 million gallons of water!
But wetlands are disappearing.
A year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court scaled back federal protections from American wetlands. EDF found via preliminary analysis that, due to that decision, upwards of 90 million acres of wetlands, across the U.S., may be without federal protections. That’s the size of Montana!
If we don’t fight to protect our wetlands, our communities could lose the flooding protections they provide. Help us change the course of wetlands' future by signing on to protect wetlands.

Wetlands don’t just protect us from flooding. They store carbon, bear the brunt of storms and are home to 40% of the world’s species, including half of all endangered and threatened species in the U.S.
EDF is hard at work conserving, protecting and restoring wetlands across the country, spreading word of their value and providing recommendations for lawmakers.
With people like you on board, John, we show the power of our movement to decision-makers across the country. This means we can go beyond restoring the protections we’ve lost, but also make current protections even stronger.
Join us in our efforts by committing to protect wetlands today!
