Everybody has a right to live, Friend – but New Yorkers are facing multiple crises that threaten our ability to survive here.
Half of New Yorkers in every county pay more rent than they can afford. Apartments aren’t just expensive, but they’re also the single largest pollution source in the state. The worsening climate crisis is taking a toll on our health and forcing mass migrations across the planet.
The pandemic revealed undeniable cracks in our state and city governments’ responses, but it also opened opportunities to provide unprecedented support to the communities who need it most. We have the solutions to take on these crises and take care of each other so we can thrive, but we have to set the terms.
That’s why we’re launching the Right to Live Agenda, a platform that prioritizes what we need to thrive – no matter where we come from, what we look like, or how much money we make. Add your name to tell our elected city and state leaders to support policies that protect our right to live.
Last week we launched our Right to Live Agenda with 100+ electeds, allies, and community members to send the message that we can create a livable, thriving New York by taxing the ultra-wealthy to fund services that meet the needs of our communities.
Our Right to Live Agenda is based on these fundamental principles:
These principles guide our Right to Live Agenda policy platform – a platform that prioritizes legislation that has the most impact on New Yorkers’ lives across the state. Read our Right to Live Agenda policy platform here.
Our right to live isn’t up for debate, Friend. Elected leaders in city and state government can’t continue to give in to the demands of billionaires, fossil fuel executives, and the landlord lobby at the expense of our lives. We must take on the crises that we’re facing head on, and the Right to Live Agenda can help secure a livable future for all New Yorkers.
Sign on to the Right to Live Agenda to support a livable, thriving future for every New Yorker.
In solidarity,
The NYCC team
