Hamas Fires Rockets at Tel Aviv From Rafah
Wall Street Journal: Hamas militants in Rafah on Sunday fired eight rockets at the Tel Aviv region marking the first time that Israel’s densely populated core has been targeted in four months. The rockets fired at Tel Aviv, some of which were intercepted by air defenses, didn’t injure any one. The barrage signals that Hamas remains capable of threatening Israel from the city in southern Gaza that is the focus of an expanding Israeli offensive (Wall Street Journal). Times of Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel must take over Rafah to eliminate Hamas’s last remaining battalions and achieve its goal of “total victory” over the group, though Hamas fighters have recently regrouped in other parts of Gaza where the military had already operated. Israel believes Hamas leaders and many operatives are hiding in Rafah, along with an unspecified number of hostages kidnapped in the Hamas-led October 7 atrocities. The city in southern Gaza is also one of the last locations where the IDF believed Hamas to have major rocket stockpiles (Times of Israel).

Israel Continues Operation in Rafah as International Court of Justice Orders Halt
CNN: The United Nations’ top court has ordered Israel to immediately halt its controversial military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, further increasing international pressure on Israel over its war against Hamas. “Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in Rafah which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part,” Judge Nawaf Salam, president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), said on Friday. The court considers the humanitarian situation in Rafah to be classified as “disastrous,” he said, adding that UN officials have indicated that the situation was set to “intensify even further” if the Israeli operation in Rafah continues (CNN). Bloomberg: Officials in Israel say they interpret Friday’s ruling in The Hague as permitting the incursion to continue as long as it’s done with care, adding that the military is carrying out targeted strikes in Rafah, far short of a full invasion (Bloomberg).

Americans View Fast Food as a Luxury Due to Price Hikes
Fox Business: A recent nonprobability survey conducted by LendingTree found 78% of consumers now consider fast food to be a “luxury” purchase due to how expensive the meals have become. Nearly half of Americans (46%) say a meal at a fast-food restaurant costs about the same as one at their local sit-down restaurants, and 22% said fast food is actually more expensive. Fast-food price hikes have outpaced inflation in recent years. Data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis shows the cost of fast-food meals is up 41% from 2017, while the consumer price index has risen by 35.9% (Fox Business). Townhall: In 2019, a McDonald’s Big Mac hamburger cost $3.99. Flash forward four years later under Biden’s term, the greasy sandwich will set an American back $8.29. Columnist Dan O’Donnell of the Maclver Institute said that “basic items like McDonald’s cheeseburgers and Chick-fil-A nuggets have risen as much as 200 percent in less than five years with dire consequences for the lower- and middle-class families who make up much of the fast food customer base” (Townhall).

Half of UCLA Medical Students Failing Basic Competency Tests As Admissions Standards Deteriorate
Daily Wire: Students at one of the top medical schools in the country are failing basic medical competency tests – and whistleblowers at the school are blaming affirmative action policies. Some faculty members shared emails and other information, which revealed that the University of California-Los Angeles was admitting students based on race over merit, a practice that has been illegal in California since 1996. “I have students on their rotation who don’t know anything,” a member of the admissions committee said. As many as 50% of students are failing basic standardized tests on emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Large percentages are also failing basic tests in neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, and surgery as well. Nationally, an average of 5% of students fail each test (Daily Wire). Daily Mail: The David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles boasts Nobel Prize winners on its faculty and accepts just 173 students out of the 14,000 who apply to it each year. But it has plunged from sixth to 18th place in the rankings since the appointment of Jennifer Lucerno as dean of admissions in June 2020 amid claims that the admissions bar for underrepresented minorities is now ‘as low as you could possibly imagine’ (Daily Mail).

Seattle Museum Shut Down After Staff Boycotts Antisemitism Exhibit
New York Post: Nearly 30 Seattle museum staffers have shut down the art center in protest of its new “Confronting Hate Together’’ exhibit, claiming portions of the show “conflate anti-Zionism as antisemitism.” The workers, who form about half of the staff at the Wing Luke Museum, stormed off the job Wednesday, the day the exhibit opened, forcing the site to close and vowing to remain on strike until their demands are met. The 26 striking workers are demanding their employer remove any language from the exhibit that “attempts to frame Palestinian liberation and anti-Zionism as antisemitism,” acknowledge its “limited perspectives,” conduct a community review of it and “center voices and perspectives that align with the museum’s mission and values,” the group wrote on social media (New York Post).
