PICTURED: Congressman Tony Gonzales at the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony. "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." John 15:13 Today, we honor the veterans who lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we cherish. I encourage you and your loved ones to take a moment today and remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget our nation's heroes. I worked closely with the VA to fix deteriorating roads and the gate at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery. We owe our veterans everything. Delivering for TX-23 Veterans, Servicemembers, and Military Installations I served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Now, I have the honor of serving our nation in Congress. South and West Texas is home to many veterans and military families. As Congress works through its funding priorities, I’m focused on ensuring our veterans and servicemembers are put at the front of the line. The brave men and women who serve in our military deserve better than to live, work, and learn on a base with infrastructure that is falling apart, or in some cases, poses severe health risks. I am also committed to ensuring our veterans have access to the best possible healthcare, benefits, and additional services. I am proud to announce that I advanced legislation in Congress that will upgrade infrastructure for TX-23 military bases, improve access to VA mental health services, and bolster military readiness. On Thursday, we came together to clean the walls of the Vietnam Memorial to honor the brave servicemembers who gave their lives in service to our nation. This has become an important tradition for our caucus. We will always come together to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the generations of veterans who came before us are honored and that the men and women who serve in our armed forces are well taken care of. I'm working in Congress to help secure funding for UTSA to establish a new center on campus for veterans and military students. Establishing a network for veterans at UTSA will improve educational outcomes at the university for all those who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces. I look forward to working alongside UTSA leadership to get this important project over the finish line. Follow @RepTonyGonzales on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
