Hi Friend,

Today's NZ HeraldHave you seen this morning's NZ Herald?

Yet again, the media are decrying 3,900 Government "job losses" without giving the key context or the whole pictureThe number of bureaucrats increased by a staggering 18,418 since 2017.

It's difficult to escape the moans and wails from the bureaucratic blob, the Labour-backing trade unions, and the media commentariat about the so called 'brutal cuts' that are about to be inflicted on the poor Public Service.

If the media won't do it, we will! 😂

Friend, your humble Taxpayers' Union have unveiled a brand new modern art sculpture right in the heart of The Beehive. And as you'll see, our Beehive artwork is beautiful. 😍

And don't worry... this is one work of 'art' at Parliament that taxpayers didn't pay for!

Cuts in context: putting Willis' savings into perspective 🎨

Cuts in Context

We built three towers out of some beautiful cardboard boxes each representing 1,000 Government bureaucrats.

You can see for yourself the scale of the growth in the number of bureaucrats from 47,251 in 2017 to the 65,669 today – that's a huge 39 percent increase in just over six years.

It makes the 3,900 jobs facing the axe under the Government's plans seem tiny by comparison – and that's because they are!

Yesterday we headed down to Parliament to unveil the sculpture.

We cannot continue down the path of taxpayers paying more but getting less 🛣️

While Kiwis continue to pay a higher share of their wages in tax, the ballooning bureaucracy is contributing to New Zealand’s skyrocketing Government debt, which, according to the official Government Debt Clock, is now running at more than $90,000 per household.

Getting staffing numbers back to pre-Covid levels would be a good start towards getting the Public Service back under control.

As it stands, even after Nicola Willis' proposed cuts, the Public Service is still set to be larger than it was just a year ago.

Telling Nicola Willis to go further and faster 📣

This morning, we decided to inject some much needed balance into the debate in (ironically) the same NZ Herald.

Our Eviction Notice for Bureaucrats advert (this is the one Stuff banned and then – thanks to Taxpayers' Union supporters like you – unbanned).

Message to the lazy bureaucrats enjoying the 'make work' scheme: You're fired!

While the mainstream media have failed to put Nicola Willis' cuts in context, we know that most Kiwis agree with you and I on this one.

Polling released last week showed that the vast majority New Zealanders agree the level of proposed public servant cuts is either "about right" or "doesn't go far enough". Not that you'd get that impression from the media!

Thank you for your support.
