Why these new dates? Because on 22-23 September, world leaders and
civil society will gather in New York for the midway point review of
progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and one critical
question is likely to come up: "how will we pay for these
efforts?" We think we can answer that question for them: Use
the billions that get wasted on nuclear weapons every year!
We also think these dates could work well for local actions outside
New York, as this is the time of year when countries are starting to
have conversations about their 2025 budgets and university students
are getting back to school (and could talk about their institutions'
financial ties with weapons producers), among other
opportunities.
ICAN will still release its annual report on global nuclear
weapons spending on 17 June, and we will be sending you an update, so
keep an eye on your inbox.
This report will kick off a global brainstorm on what we could do
with the money instead. It's a chance to invite people to join us in
imagining a billion better uses for this money, opening the door for
them to join the week of action in September.
We hope you will join us for the week of action (if you haven't
already). And if you would like to get more involved in organising
actions or spreading the word, please check out our week of action
facts and tools:
