We have to do better. Help us raise $50,000 between now and Earth Day to build a cleaner and healthier future for all people.
Early analysis of COVID-19 data found that severity and fatalities were dramatically higher among those with heart disease, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases.
Long term exposure to air pollution causes many of these diseases, and makes respiratory illnesses more dangerous.
In a more recent study, researchers overlaid COVID-19 data and a map of local air pollution data, and observed that U.S. counties which had high levels of air pollution before the COVID-19 crisis are dying from COVID-19 at a higher rate.
It probably won’t surprise you to learn that the most polluted neighborhoods are disproportionately low-income, Black and Hispanic communities.
As cities and states nationwide begin to release COVID-19 data, we are seeing the heavy human cost of that environmental inequality: Black and Hispanic Americans are dying from coronavirus at higher rates in every place where data has been made available.
But together, we are powerful. By acting together, we solved acid rain, shrunk the hole in the ozone, and brought species like the bald eagle back from the brink of extinction.
Now, our world is changing rapidly in the face of a crisis, and nobody knows exactly what the future will look like.
Make the future we’re building more just and less dangerous by donating to our $50,000 Earth Day drive.
While daunting, the threats we face are solvable. But first, we have to restore respect for science in government.
If we follow the facts and take bold action together, we can protect not only the health of our families, but countless other families around the world.
Thank you for sticking with us,
