Friends,
Memorial Day is a chance to honor the lives of servicemembers who died
defending our country — people who made the ultimate sacrifice in service
to a nation, its people, and its ideals.
Their dedication, their commitment, and their service are what make our
democracy possible.
It’s important that we always remember those who came before us and fought
so that our country’s promise of hope and equality is able to continue
serving as a shining beacon for the rest of the world.
But it’s also important that we look to the future and do so with the
context and understanding of where we’ve been.
With an eye to the future, we must continue in our never-ending pursuit of
progress. We owe it to those that came before us to leave the world a
better place for our children and grandchildren.
Today is a reminder that we must take care of one another, and that things
like opportunity, equality, and freedom are worth fighting for.
And it’s a reminder that as a country, we’re at our strongest when we work
together to achieve big things.
Thank you,
and Happy Memorial Day!
With gratitude,
Angela Alsobrooks
