We’re nearing the end of May in a pivotal election year, and it’s been a wild month:
- Kristi Noem went viral for sharing a horrifying story about shooting her puppy and goat in her bid for the GOP Vice Presidential nod from Trump.
- Donald Trump refused to rule out political violence in a disturbing Time Magazine interview where he didn’t even try and hide his authoritarian ambitions.
- And now, the first 2024 Presidential debate has been booked for one month from today.
This is the most important election of our lifetime, and trustworthy sources of news and information have never been more important. That’s why we’re so worried about our fundraising numbers right now – just take a look at our Act Blue trend since the end of April:
We’ll admit we set an ambitious goal for May: $25,000 raised to support our ten battleground newsrooms.
With only four days left in the month, we’re about $10,000 away from that goal.
Our goals aren’t arbitrary, at COURIER, we make all of our news available for free – no subscriptions, no paywalls.
We do that because too many American communities are stuck in news deserts. Without access to trustworthy news and information, these communities become vulnerable to right-wing lies, hate, and misinformation.
Research has shown factual, local news is the best way to reverse that trend, but we can’t keep the lights on without your support.
