John,
“I will go on the record with you all tonight and say that I absolutely believe in climate change. It happens four times every year.”
That’s a joke Boebert made last summer while Americans were living through the hottest summer on record. Personally, I don’t find it funny at all.
We could explain to Boebert that climate and weather are not the same thing, and that climate change is the cause of these extreme fluctuations in weather.
Of course we might not have to explain that if she bothered to listen to the Colorado cattle ranchers who are having to sell off their herds due to droughts caused by global warming.
But as a decorated, combat-wounded Marine, my biggest problem with Lauren’s little wisecrack is not that she has no idea what she’s talking about, it’s the fact that Lauren Boebert claims to care about our military and keeping our country safe while cracking jokes about one of the greatest national security threats we face.
That’s not my opinion, that’s the official assessment of the Department of Defense. Pentagon research has concluded that environmental degradation, social tensions, political instability, and global conflicts are increasing because of climate change.
It’s been 10 years since the Pentagon first declared it a major national security issue. Three years ago, they upgraded that threat level to an existential crisis.
