Content Warning: This email discusses domestic violence
It was just about a year ago that I stood on the floor of the House and shared my mother’s story. I shared how she suffered violence at the hands of a man who claimed her loved her. How, on any given day, she was beaten for being too pretty, too ugly, too smart, too dumb.
In the midst of the current crisis, survivors of sexual and domestic violence are at even greater risk, too often isolated in unsafe situations. It’s more important than ever that they know they are not alone.
It is unconscionable that the Republican majority Senate has refused to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act — life-saving legislation has helped countless survivors since it originally passed in 1994.
I am calling on the Senate and Mitch McConnell to finally reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, so we can offer more protections and support to survivors. Will you add your name to join me?
