Team,

Every Memorial Day, I always think of Roger Durbin.

Many years ago, at a town hall event, Roger stood up and asked me why there wasn't a national World War II memorial. He had fought in the war and had lost countless friends; his question deserved an answer. More than that, it deserved action.

Over the next 17 years, I worked with Roger to make his dream a reality. And although he never got to see it, his vision will stand on our National Mall for generations to come.

Friend, the brave Americans who've made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms and our way of life deserve nothing less.

It was an honor to champion Roger's dream for 17 years and finally achieve it, and it's an honor to go to work every day for all of the servicemembers who have returned home.

Since my very first day in Congress, I've been taking care of those who've served in uniform. I've worked across the aisle to help pass the largest increase in veterans' health care in history, secured funding for new state-of-the-art VA clinics throughout Ohio, and spearheaded major federal investments in Ohio's defense bases.

As long as I have a voice, I'll never turn my back on our heroes in uniform. That's a promise.
