John, did you know that only 10% of eligible voters showed up to the polls on Super Tuesday in March? These numbers spell nothing but trouble for our democracy, especially as we head into the November election.
With recent voting trends showing a major lack of enthusiasm for the top of the ticket, Democrats need to up the ante and mobilize at the state and local level – especially in key battleground states. If they don’t, they run the risk of a Republican takeover in both the White House and Congress, with Donald Trump and his GOP extremist allies at the helm.
This is our solution, and it’s what we’re calling "reverse coattails."
Our generation is more likely to vote when they see people like us on the ballot: young, progressive and dedicated to the causes we care about. We already know our methods work, our research shows that Democrats contesting state legislative seats spark meaningful increases in voter turnout for statewide and national elections.
That means the more progressive school boards candidates, election administrators, city council members and so on that we have engaging with voters, the better chance we have at driving them to the polls this November. But we can’t do this work without your help.
