Gov. Justice lifts State of Emergency for WV DCR facilities, thanks WV National Guard
|
|
Gov. Justice, the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the West Virginia National Guard announced the State of Emergency put in effect in 2022 to address jail staffing shortages has been lifted.
West Virginia National Guard members who had been alleviating staffing shortages at adult and juvenile correctional and detention facilities have completed their mission and are out of all WV DCR facilities.

First Lady Justice announces the Great West Virginia Hot Dog Sauce Cook-Off in honor of West Virginia’s 161st birthday

For West Virginia’s birthday this year, First Lady Cathy and Gov. Justice will host a hot dog sauce contest, inviting West Virginians to showcase their culinary talents by submitting their best hot dog sauce recipes.
|
|
This unique event celebrates the Mountain State's rich culinary heritage and will culminate in a celebration on West Virginia Day, Thursday, June 20, 2024.
In addition to the grand prize winner, there will be prizes for second and third-place winners. The first-place winner will receive $500, the second-place winner $300, and the third-place winner $100.
Participants are encouraged to submit their special step-by-step hot dog sauce recipes by June 10, 2024. The winning recipes will be revealed and celebrated on West Virginia Day, June 20, 2024. Details on the WV Day event will be posted soon.

Gov. Justice, Emergency Management Division announce Major Disaster Declaration for April severe weather events

|
Gov. Justice and the West Virginia Emergency Management Division announced that President Joe Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for the state of West Virginia.
This declaration is in response to the severe weather events from April 2-6, 2024, which included straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.
“We worked really hard for this Major Disaster Declaration,” said Gov. Justice. “We made sure we had the damage reports from every single county to get our ducks in a row. After the wreckage the April storms caused, West Virginia deserves this funding. Now, we are going to start rebuilding our communities.”

Gov. Justice announces Free Fishing Days weekend to take place June 8–9
|
|
Gov. Justice announced that West Virginia’s Free Fishing Days will return June 8–9 and encouraged anglers and their families to take advantage of this annual opportunity to fish for free in public lakes, streams and rivers around the state.
“With school letting out for the summer and vacation season upon us, West Virginia’s Free Fishing Days weekend is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy all the beauty and goodness of our great state,” Gov. Justice said. “This opportunity only comes once a year, so I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of it and see why West Virginia is surely and truly the best place in the world for families to enjoy a fishing adventure.”

First Lady Cathy Justice welcomes newest Friends With Paws therapy dogs at New Martinsville School and Parkersburg High School

First Lady Cathy Justice yesterday welcomed the state’s newest therapy dogs through the Friends With Paws program during an assembly at New Martinsville School and Parkersburg High School. Molly, a female Yellow Labrador Retriever, was placed at New Martinsville School. Barney, a male Yellow Labrador Retriever, was placed at Parkersburg High School
