We must act to protect it from Trump

The MAGA movement has come to this: The American flag was flown upside down in front of the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito near Washington D.C.

And at his oceanside mansion, flying in place of the Stars and Stripes was an insurrectionist banner carried by rioters when they stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

There is no doubt that Trump and his cabal want to dismantle our democracy. They have even published their scheme, Project 2025 ([link removed]) .

So, we must act to save it.

On this Memorial Day weekend let’s send a loud and clear message to Justice Alito and his ilk about how we honor the American flag instead of disrespecting it.

Call to Action: Take a photo of your Red, White, and Blue, post it on social media, tag @jointheunionus, and use the hashtag #TakeBackTheFlag or send it to [email protected]. Include a caption stating what the flag means to you and mention your state.

The American flag deserves reverence. We learned that in elementary school.

Soldiers have risked their lives to retrieve a flag in battle. Flags have draped the caskets of fallen heroes. After 9/11, three New York City firefighters raised the flag above the remains of the World Trade Center. It’s time to return the flag to all Americans and for it to be flown proudly and with respect by those who value democracy.
