Trump has signaled that if he becomes president again, he won’t just block U.S. agencies from fighting climate change, he’ll also block international bodies from doing so too.
As an example, the International Energy Agency has shifted its focus in recent years to aid the transition away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy. If Trump wins, he’ll use the U.S.’s leverage to force it to promote fossil fuels again.
This shouldn’t be a surprise after Trump offered a deal with Big Oil executives that if they spend $1 BILLION to help him win this election, he will enact laws that will help them avoid climate taxes and regulations and pull us out of international climate agreements.
These international agencies are warning that if Trump wins this election, he will have the power to not just move U.S. agencies towards fossil fuel instead of fighting climate change, but also the entire international apparatus.
When Trump was President, he pulled us out of the Paris Climate Agreement. Fortunately, President Biden reversed that just in the nick of time so that we can still meet our climate goals, in combination with the investments passed by our SEEC members to reduce our emissions and invest in green technology.
But this time Donald Trump is trying to go even further. He knows the United Nations and other agencies get the majority of their funding from the U.S., so he could literally block the entire world from making progress towards our clean energy and climate goals.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
