It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting for our conservative values.
This week, the House considered and passed Majority Whip Emmer’s (R-MN) CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act. I co-sponsored, supported, and voted AYE on this bill, which prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a surveillance-style central bank digital currency (CBDC) that could give the government the ability to monitor and control individual Americans’ spending. We’ve already seen authoritarian countries like China use a digital central currency to monitor their people. It would be foolish to assume that our own federal government wouldn’t do the same if given the opportunity. So let’s not give them the chance in the first place.
It's incredibly frustrating to see important legislation like the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which passed the House with bipartisan support, being ignored by our colleagues in the Senate. We have a crisis on our southern border and communities across the country—including in Minnesota—are paying the price. We’re paying it in the lives lost to smuggled drugs or gang violence, and financially as taxpayers shoulder the burden to support illegal immigrants. Our bill, among other key border security measures, would fight this by finishing the wall, hiring more border agents, and criminalizing visa overstays. That’s why it’s such a shame that Chuck Schumer is holding our bill up for political reasons. We need to continue to pressure Senate Democrats to take action and show the American people that we are serious about securing our borders.
I joined House Republicans in supporting a measure to repeal a Washington, D.C. law that allows illegal immigrants to vote in local elections. While I am pleased that our resolution passed, a large majority of Democrats voted to let illegal immigrants vote. Let that sink in. House Democrats are pushing for illegal immigrants to vote, eroding our Constitution and diluting the merits of citizenship. House Republicans, including myself, are wholly committed to election integrity, ensuring only legal votes from U.S. citizens count. But if Democrats take back the House, imagine what they could get away with. We must stand firm and protect the integrity of our elections, which starts with defending our House majority.
