Usually on this day, we're in church admiring the lillies, checking out the hats, and listening to the sermon.

John --

Like any other holiday, I have so many memories of my son Jordan tied to Easter Sunday. We'd get dressed up, go to church for the service, and have a big meal with family and friends. But, even if Jordan was still with us, this socially distanced Easter would be very different.

The church is somewhere many of us turn for fellowship, support, and spiritual nourishment in times of crisis -- times like right now. After Jordan's death, I first turned inward to process my grief, and God helped lead me to my Church community -- the congregation and faith leaders -- for help and guidance. They were able to share the burden with me, and help me get through the most brutal experience of my life.

And as I eventually turned my grief into action as a mother on a mission, I took teachings with me from the Easter story. Each of us are confronted with life-changing situations where we're forced to find a way through painful and terrible events that bring our world crashing down -- a situation countless families affected by the COVID-19 crisis find themselves in now. And all of us have to find a way to come out on the other side.

How we react in the face of pain and adversity is key. We all process terrible and painful events in our own way, but in the Easter story we find guidance on how to move forward. I am living proof -- my own story has led me from a career as a flight attendant to a grieving mother, and now a member of the House of Representatives. And at every single step of the way I was looking deep into my faith for guidance on rebuilding my life.

So on this Easter Sunday, I'm wishing a blessed day to everyone who celebrates. Even if you do not, we can all learn from the Easter Story in the midst of a crisis -- at the end, evil does not overcome good, tragedy doesn't win the day, and there is hope. We'll continue to get through this together, and come out stronger in the end.

With love,

-- Lucy
