This legislation will enhance transparency and accountability as we overhaul the federal government's outdated, vulnerable IT systems. The bill restores the original intent of the Technology Modernization Fund to focus on replacing legacy systems that pose serious cybersecurity risks to our nation. With this bill now passing the House, we are taking a significant step to strengthen America's cyber defenses and patch vulnerabilities that put our technological infrastructure at risk. This is the type of commonsense, security-focused solution Americans deserve from their representatives. We will continue leading the way in putting America first and making our nation more secure! As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and the panel on Quality of Life, our office has worked incredibly hard to pass 14 key amendments in this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that put our service members' well being first. Supporting Military Families: Requiring infertility report for active duty troops Ensuring locality pay reflects true cost of living Directing plan to reinstate soldiers discharged over vaccine mandates Calling for report on troops discharged solely for marijuana use Ensuring locality pay reflects true cost of living Directing plan to reinstate soldiers discharged over vaccine mandates Calling for report on troops discharged solely for marijuana use Prioritizing Health, Safety & Justice: Mandating oral rehydration solutions to prevent heat injuries Incorporating medical marijuana research for PTSD/brain injuries Enhancing justice standards and investigations involving servicemembers Directing a report on the recruitment strategy in place for discharged troops Fair Compensation & Quality of Life: Requiring report on access to care and medical staffing shortages Studying service-connected infertility rates Analyzing cost-of-living and locality pay discrepancies Strengthening Military Readiness: Requiring a research study for new nuclear training simulator in Lowcountry Requiring briefing on China's hypersonic weapons development Advancing cyber, electronic warfare and information ops training To read a more in-depth list of our wins for the military, click here. Legislating for the Lowcountry: Violence Against Women By Illegal Aliens Passed out of Judiciary Committee: A major victory for border security and women’s safety was achieved by our bill the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act passing through markup in the House Judiciary Committee. This is now one step closer to becoming law. This legislation aims to protect American women and girls from the consequences of the disastrous border crisis fueled by the radical left's failed policies. The Act takes a firm stance - deeming any illegal aliens convicted of sex offenses, domestic violence, or those admitting to such heinous acts, as inadmissible. Additionally, it will mandate deportation for those convicted of a sex offense or conspiracy to commit one. With rampant lawlessness at the border endangering women nationwide, this bill represents a frontline defense upholding the rule of law and prioritizing women's security. Our office will continue to relentlessly secure the border and protect American citizens. We Sent a Scathing Letter to the USDA: Our office sent a letter demanding transparency and action from the USDA on their continued funding of cruel and unnecessary experiments on kittens and cats. While the USDA ended a program that bred and killed over 3,000 kittens, they have failed to implement a lab animal retirement policy mandated by Congress. Reports reveal the USDA still funds studies that confine cats in small cages and intentionally infect them with diseases like COVID-19. We are calling for details on all current USDA-funded cat and dog research projects, any foreign animal studies, and their policies for retiring research animals. As champions of policies like the PAAW Act and Violet's Law, we remain committed to ending inhumane animal testing and ensuring humane treatment of research animals. This bill eases the financial burden on our citizens when catastrophe strikes, including Lowcountry families during hurricane season. This would ensure that victims from these disasters are not paying income taxes on compensation they received from Federal, State, or local government agencies. Supporting this act prioritizes helping our own communities rebuild and recover with urgency. We won't leave the Lowcountry or any American behind after disasters. H.R. 3019 - Federal Prison Oversight Act: Our office voted ‘Yes’ on this bill. It will amend current law to create new inspections for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). The bill would also require the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Inspector General (IG) to conduct risk-based assessment of BOP facilities, and create more transparency and accountability in our prisons. H.R. 4763 - Financial Innovation Act: We voted ‘Yes’ on this bill because it creates a framework for the SEC and CFTC to regulate digital asset exchanges and crypto assets at the federal level. It establishes that a digital asset is not inherently a security, but can be part of a securities contract. This accommodates the transition of a digital asset project from being developer-controlled to fully decentralized. Currently, the cryptocurrency industry suffers from unclear regulations, but this bill aims to provide the necessary clarity. H.R. 5403 - CBDC Anti-Surveillance Act: Our office voted ‘Yes’ on this legislation. As cryptocurrencies gain more popularity and adoption, this bill sets clear boundaries on the Federal Reserve's involvement with digital currencies. It prohibits Federal Reserve banks from offering products or services directly to individuals, maintaining accounts for individuals, or issuing a central bank digital currency (like a digital dollar) to individuals. Furthermore, it prevents the Federal Reserve Board from using a central bank digital currency to implement monetary policy or from issuing such a currency. In essence, this bill ensures that the Federal Reserve cannot directly provide banking services or digital dollars to the public, nor use digital currency to influence economic policies. Our ‘Yes’ vote reaffirmed America's free market principles and democratic accountability over monetary policies. H.R. 192 - D.C. Non-Citizen Voting Ban: We voted ‘Yes’ because it is common sense– allowing illegal aliens to vote in D.C., even just locally, degrades the very meaning of citizenship through unconstitutional voter dilution. It compromises election integrity by giving a voice to unvetted foreign nationals whose interests may directly undermine America's sovereignty and the Lowcountry's values. If it can happen in D.C., it can happen anywhere. But rest assured, we won't allow it to. Protecting this cornerstone of self-governance ensures the Lowcountry's voice stays undiluted in choosing our national leaders and direction.   Are your neighbors aware of everything our team is doing in DC and in the district?
