Fellow Conservative,

This weekend, we honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives in service of our country. Because of those brave men and women, we are able to live in a country where we are safe and free.

If you have the opportunity, thank the family of someone who gave their life in service of our great country. In a world where many take our freedoms for granted—let’s not let them forget how much their loved one’s service means to us.

This week, Americans took a big step toward financial freedom when the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5403, the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act, which was spearheaded by Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.).

After Heritage Action listed this bill as a Key Vote cosponsorship on the Heritage Action scorecard, thousands of grassroots activists contacted their members to urge them to support this critical piece of legislation that prohibits Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) from being issued by the government or intermediary banking institutions.

CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act

In the Senate, Chuck Schumer brought his “Bipartisan” Border Act to the floor for a vote. This bill does nothing to truly secure our nation’s borders, but actually:

  • Allows up to 8,000 illegal aliens to cross the border a day
  • Codifies “catch-and-release”
  • Speeds up work permits for thousands of illegal aliens
  • Grants amnesty
  • Provides billions in taxpayer dollars to bail out sanctuary cities

This bill fails on many counts, and failed to make it to a final vote.

The only true solution to Biden’s self-inflicted border crisis is H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. This is the same bill that passed the House and has been sitting on Schumer’s desk collecting dust for more than a year.

The motivations from Democrats are clear. They don’t want to secure the border, especially in an election year!

The House made another step to safeguard our elections with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (H.R. 8281), a bill to require states to obtain proof of citizenship before registering voters. The bill was reported out of committee on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Heritage Action Executive Vice President Ryan Walker sent a letter to House Administration Committee leadership sharing support from the grassroots and urging lawmakers to back the bill.

The right to vote is one of Americans’ most sacred privileges. Our government has a duty to protect that right.

While Biden lets millions of people into our country, requiring proof of citizenship to vote is essential to protect the ballot box.

Heritage Action supports H.R. 8281 and we encourage you to urge your representatives to SUPPORT the SAVE Act.

Across the nation, there are several localities that are granting illegal aliens the right to vote—Washington, D.C. being one of them. It’s policies like these that are a gateway for illegal citizens to have access to vote in federal elections.

Thankfully, Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) has been leading the charge to prevent illegal aliens from voting in elections in Washington, D.C. This week his bill, H.R. 192, passed the House! But what is even more notable is the 143 Democrats who voted no on the bill and in favor of allowing non-citizens to vote.

South Carolina
South Carolina enacted two key bills into law this week to protect South Carolina’s children. H. 4624, a Help Not Harm bill which was signed by Gov. Henry McMaster, would protect children in the Palmetto State from irreversible cross-sex hormones and surgeries.

Governor McMaster also signed into law H. 3424, which would protect children by requiring commercial websites to verify the age of the viewer before allowing access if the pages contain a significant amount of sexually explicit content.

Currently, pornographic material in South Carolina is readily accessible online. In fact, 80% of 12-17 year-olds and 37% of children 9-11 years-old have been exposed to sexually explicit material while online. Adolescent exposure to sexually explicit material is often linked to pornographic addiction which can result in dire consequences, including mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

We commend South Carolina for joining the growing number of states protecting children online.

Louisiana

Louisiana sent a number of bills this week to the governor’s desk for signature, including one that would help the Pelican State fight Biden’s Border Crisis. States across the country are bearing the consequences of illegal immigration like never before. Making the problem worse, many states have sanctuary policies that further protect criminal aliens at the expense of law-abiding citizens.

SB208 would put a stop to “sanctuary policies” in the state of Louisiana, and require local government and law enforcement agencies to cooperate with ICE. We look forward to Gov. Jeff Landry signing this important bill.

On this Memorial Day Weekend, I hope you take time to remember the courage and bravery of the men and women who risked it all and paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the precious freedoms and liberties we have today. Thank you all for your support and activism, because America is worth fighting for.
