Folks,
In a just world, Benjamin Netanyahu would have been prosecuted for crimes against humanity years ago, and tens of thousands of Palestinians would still be alive today.
We do not live in a just world. At least not yet.
The tide IS beginning to turn. Four days ago, International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan released a statement that he is seeking arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Defense Minister Gallant, and several Hamas leaders over war crimes committed in Gaza.
Today the International Court of Justice, the top UN Court hearing South Africa’s case against Israel for genocide, issued orders that Israel is ‘to immediately halt’ their military assault on Rafah.
It’s far too little and far too late for the nearly 40,000 dead in Gaza – but it is still a major step forward.
Now the question is: will the U.S. government continue to run cover for Netanyahu’s crimes?
The answer appears to be yes.
The Biden administration continues to veto, abstain, or refuse to enforce any measure of accountability from the U.N. against Israel.
Our Democratic president continues to collude with the Republican right-wing House majority (and a lot of help from Democrats) to funnel billions of dollars worth of weapons to Israel to be used against Gaza.
And leaders of both major parties continue to reject formal recognition of the State of Palestine, or a willingness to comply with international arrest warrants if issued.
But now Congress is getting ready to roll out the red carpet for this war criminal to deliver a joint address before the House and Senate.
