Friend,

Connecting with you and hearing your thoughts is my top priority as your representative. I will be holding my next in-person town hall on Thursday, May 30th, at 9:00 AM to share an update on my recent work in Congress and answer your questions. Whether we agree or disagree on an issue, you'll always know where I stand and why. I'm looking forward to a great conversation and I hope to see you there!

Best,

Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives for our country.

Freedom isn’t free. Our cherished freedoms come at a cost of millions of lives – American lives cut short so we can fly our flag, speak freely, and practice our religion without fear.

While we will never be able to fully repay the fallen, I will do my best to honor their sacrifice by working to ensure every veteran has access to the care, benefits, and resources they have earned. Watch my full Memorial Day message here.

Police Week Legislation

During National Police Week, I was proud to vote for legislation to support law enforcement officers in Iowa and across the country. Our brave men and women in blue run toward danger to protect our communities and I will continue working to ensure they have the resources to keep our communities safe.

Last week, the House passed pro-police legislation including:

  • My bipartisan, bicameral Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act: Helps provide mental health resources to law enforcement officers amid a rise in anti-police rhetoric

  • The Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act: Strengthens immigration laws to require that illegal immigrants who assault Americans – particularly law enforcement – are permanently detained until being deported

  • The Police Our Border Act: Requires the U.S. Attorney General to report on the impact of the border crisis on federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement to hold this administration accountable for the consequences of their open borders agenda

Iowa is Leading the Way with Commonsense Conservatism

Last week, I spoke on the House Floor to recognize Iowa's designation in the U.S. News & World Report's 2024 Best State Rankings as the 6th best state to live and the 3rd best state for opportunities. Iowa is a model for the rest of the country.

Iowa's prosperity under Governor Reynolds is the perfect contrast to Joe Biden’s national failures. We're leading the way with commonsense conservatism, and our future is bright. Watch my full floor speech here.

Ken Graham, Director of NOAA National Weather Service

It was great to meet with Ken Graham, the Director of NOAA's National Weather Service, this week. With the severe weather across Iowa, we discussed my work to ensure emergency communication systems are reliable so Iowans have accurate information in dangerous scenarios.

Cedar Valley Coalition

It was great to have the Cedar Valley Coalition in D.C. this week to discuss expanding opportunities for economic growth and development in the Cedar Valley. We’ll continue working together to invest in the community and deliver on Iowa’s priorities.

Silos & Smokestacks

As one of America’s national heritage areas, Silos & Smokestacks is committed to the preservation of Iowa farmland and the future of Iowa farmers. I enjoyed hearing from Cara Miller and the team on their priorities for the rest of the year!
