Friends,

This Memorial Day, please take the time to remember all who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service of our great nation.

This is America, where we are blessed to live in a country that guarantees our God-given freedoms – the greatest country in the history of the world. That is because of the men and women who fight for and defend our freedoms. Unfortunately, not everyone comes home.

Serving my country has been the greatest honor of my life. I always knew I wanted to serve my country, like so many before me and so many after. So, on Memorial Day, I will be taking the time to honor and remember my friends and comrades who gave their lives so we may be free.

Thank you for your continued support, and let's all show our support on Memorial Day for our heroes that have provided us the greatest opportunity in the world, to live in a fee and independent United States of America.

Sincerely,

Crenshaw Speaks at Energy & Commerce Health Hearing on FDA's Regulatory Oversight

Image

In our Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing this week, I asked representatives from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about regenerative medicine, including cell therapy. Additionally, I talked about the need for FDA to be more transparent and have better communication with smaller innovators.

Crenshaw discusses Life Sciences and the Valley of Death at AEI

Image

This week, I joined Brian Miller, Nonresident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) for a discussion on the "Valley of Death." This term refers to the period between Food and Drug Administration approval and insurance coverage by payers (public and private). We discussed policies to get products to market faster and improve access for patients.

From the Capitol:

This week the House passed, with my support, two important bills that help protect our data and secure our elections.

First, we passed reforms to the Federal Reserve Act that prohibits the Federal reserve banks from offering certain products or services directly to an individual, to prohibit the use of central bank digital currency for monetary policy, and for other purposes. This bill prohibits them from tracking your money, how it is spent and also blocks them from having the ability to send unappropriated payouts to individuals without congressional approval.

We also passed a bill that prohibits non-U.S. citizens from voting in elections in Washington, DC. The District of Columbia council passed a local voting rights act that would have allowed non-citizens to vote in local elections. This bill, if passed in the Senate and signed by the President, would cancel the DC law. Without it, non-citizen voting could spread more broadly and interfere with Federal elections, if not watched closely. Non-citizens are already prohibited from voting in Federal elections.

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss joined me on the podcast to discuss the mutual challenges we face within the conservative movement and against the far left in the United States and United Kingdom. PM Truss also gave us a lesson in UK Parliament 101, the Bank of England’s powerful influence over the government, and what she experienced during her tenure as Prime Minister.

Federal Relief from Recent Storms

On May 17, the Administration approved a major disaster declaration for the recent storms, allowing for Individual Assistance (IA) benefits. I led a letter in support of Governor Abbott’s call for a disaster declaration, and I stand by ready to help with the next steps in helping our district recover.

IA benefits include the Individuals and Households Program (IHP), offering financial aid and direct services to eligible individuals and households facing uninsured or underinsured expenses and critical needs. While IHP won’t replace insurance or cover all losses, it aims to address basic needs and supplement recovery efforts. Housing recovery benefits under IHP may encompass lodging expense reimbursement, rental assistance, and repair or replacement aid.

FEMA emphasizes that eligibility for federal assistance varies based on individual circumstances and program requirements. Not all applicants will qualify for every form of federal aid.

Residents in both counties can apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585). Alternatively, those affected by the disaster can access FEMA via smartphone by downloading the app from www.fema.gov or their mobile provider’s app store.

As always, I’m confident we will bounce back stronger from this latest flood. If you encounter difficulties accessing FEMA resources, please reach out to any of my offices at the contact info below.

Academy Nominations Application Information

We are currently accepting applications for a nomination to a service academy. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

For more information, please visit my website here.

Veterans Affairs Healthcare

Remember, with VA health care, you’re covered for regular checkups with your primary care provider and appointments with specialists (like cardiologists, gynecologists, and mental health providers). You can access Veterans health care services like home health and geriatric (elder) care, and you can get medical equipment, prosthetics, and prescriptions. Find out how to apply for and manage the health care benefits you've earned. Visit the website for more information. If you need assistance with the VA, contact one of my District offices.
