Happening now: Tell Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to agree to a bold climate finance plan at the G7 Finance Ministers Meeting.
Hi John -
To have any chance of a safe, healthy planet, we need massive investments in renewable energy — roughly $4 trillion where it’s most needed each year.1
And that money is out there.
Right now, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, along with the other finance ministers from the world’s wealthiest democracies — the G7 — are meeting to agree on how to spend billions of dollars in investments.
The United States and these six other countries hold almost 30% of the world’s wealth, about $49 trillion. They are some of the largest funders of coal oil, and gas, and the biggest emitters.2,3
The G7 — including the United States — must take responsibility and lead the creation of a transformative financial plan for our climate.
Secretary Yellen and the other finance ministers are vulnerable to public opinion, so we need to call on them en masse to show real leadership at this critical moment.
Will you send Secretary Yellen a message today while they’re in talks?
We’ve made it easy. It will take one minute and will land in her inbox immediately.
My heart breaks with every headline I read: devastating floods killing hundreds of people; violent and intensifying tornados that destroy lives and livelihoods — all because of climate change.
The money exists to stop this from being our daily reality.
This month, fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron are announcing record profits at the expense of our planet — profits that could be used to pay for the climate chaos they’ve caused if countries like the United States actually held them accountable.
If the G7 diverted its immense resources towards making polluters pay and championing the energy transition, we could have renewable energy that meets the needs of communities everywhere.
This group of countries wants to be seen as climate leaders, and letters, petitions and actions from our movement and people just like you, John, have made them change course. Last month, the G7 climate ministers announced they'll phase out coal power by 2035 and committed again to tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency.4
But we need more than warm words. We need money. So we’re going to the people who control the purse strings and asking them to pay up for real action.
Will you pressure Secretary Yellen to do better by sending her a letter now?
In solidarity
