Democrat,

As we approach Memorial Day, let us take a moment to honor and remember the brave women and men who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Let us come together to pay tribute to these fallen heroes, those that lived in our communities and throughout our nation, and remember the price they paid on behalf of our country. Whether through attending memorial services, laying wreaths, or simply taking a moment of silence, we must never forget their service.

Our New Jersey Democratic community consistently recognizes, celebrates, and honors veterans all year long through our Veterans Caucus. The caucus is dedicated to ensuring that the voices of veterans are heard and their contributions are recognized within the party, through our advocacy and civic engagement. I encourage you to join and support the caucus in their mission, here [[link removed]] .

Thank you for joining me in honoring the memory of our fallen heroes this Memorial Day.

Governor Murphy has announced measures to expand access to reproductive health care by allowing qualified pharmacists to provide self-administered hormonal contraceptives without a prescription. This action follows legislation signed last year, removing the prescription requirement for such contraceptives.

“As we witness an attack on reproductive freedom across the country, New Jersey will continue to be a safe haven for women to access the care they need,” said Governor Murphy.

The State Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Pharmacy have adopted rules enabling pharmacists to furnish these products according to standardized procedures. Pharmacists must undergo a four-hour training program and follow a health screening process before providing contraceptives. This aligns with New Jersey Democrats’ long standing efforts to safeguard reproductive rights amid national challenges, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade. “In New Jersey, this expansion provides broader, more equitable access while putting in place the necessary safeguards that protect patient health, safety, and privacy” said Health Commissioner Dr. Kaitlan Baston.

Other initiatives include expanding the pool of abortion care providers, providing financial support to reproductive health care facilities, and ensuring coverage for abortion services under health benefit plans.

Just this week [[link removed]] , the Louisiana state legislature voted to designate abortion pills as controlled substances. Possession of abortion pills would be a punishable offense that could lead to heavy fines and even jail time. We are grateful that Governor Murphy and our Democratic legislature have taken steps to protect women’s health, including contraception and abortion. It is imperative that we continue to vote for individuals who are going to protect these rights – or else, we risk going the way of Louisiana.

The Biden-Harris Administration has announced the cancellation of student debt for an additional 160,000 borrowers . This brings the total number of Americans who have benefited from debt relief actions to over 4.75 million . On average, each borrower has received over $35,000 in debt cancellation. The 160,000 additional borrowers include those enrolled in the Administration’s SAVE Plan, public service workers such as teachers, nurses, and law enforcement officials, and borrowers who were approved for relief due to improvements made to Income-Driven Repayment.

The progress made represents the most significant steps taken for students and borrowers in the past three years, for New Jerseyans and Americans across the nation.
