While some national organizations may overlook these states, the political fights happening right now in Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and West Virginia are incredibly important to the future of our democracy.

In Alabama, Republicans made national headlines after unleashing a first-of-its-kind attack against IVF.

In Oklahoma, the nation’s first taxpayer-funded religious charter school legality is currently being litigated by the state’s Supreme Court. If they deem it constitutional, this will have a huge impact on public education nationwide.

In Mississippi, voting rights are constantly under threat as Republican lawmakers try to disenfranchise Black Mississippians and restrict access to the polls. Last year, they were one of the few states that made it harder to vote.

Finally, in West Virginia, organizers have been fighting for months to gain ground in a deeply conservative-led state legislature. Recently the CROWN Act, which bans discrimination against Black hairstyles, was blocked by Republican lawmakers — but we’re not giving up.

As you can see, we're not afraid of so-called "red states." In fact, we call our states the real battlegrounds.
