MMFA has laid off a dozen staff members in a blow to combating and tracking=

The layoffs come as the site faces lawsuits from Elon Musk and the Missouri=

In case you missed it, Google is running ads on the racist conspiracy site OpIndia.
Not only is it doing so in direct violation of its own publisher policies, it’s doing it during India’s elections. So much for caring about misinformation! (Rachel gave a quick rundown of our report on TikTok.)
But the problem of Big Tech monetizing disinfo and hate is much bigger than Google — and news outlets are paying attention.

The pressure campaign to stop journalism hits Media Matters For America
MMFA has laid off a dozen staff members in a blow to combating and tracking disinformation and hate online.
The layoffs come as the site faces lawsuits from Elon Musk and the Missouri attorney general following its 2023 report that showed advertisements running next to pro-Nazi content.
Lawsuits are increasingly being used to silence organizations holding power to account, but we won’t be deterred. Advertisers have a right to know how their dollars are being spent by billionaires and trillion-dollar corporations.

Our big report from this week!
In case you missed it, Google is running ads on the racist conspiracy site OpIndia.
Not only is it doing so in direct violation of its own publisher policies, it’s doing it during India’s elections. So much for caring about misinformation! (Rachel gave a quick rundown of our report on TikTok.)
But the problem of Big Tech monetizing disinfo and hate is much bigger than Google — and news outlets are paying attention.
Our friends at Wired dove deeper into OpIndia, highlighting how tech companies like X and Meta keep platforming its racist conspiracies.
The pressure campaign to stop journalism hits Media Matters For America
MMFA has laid off a dozen staff members in a blow to combating and tracking disinformation and hate online.
The layoffs come as the site faces lawsuits from Elon Musk and the Missouri attorney general following its 2023 report that showed advertisements running next to pro-Nazi content.
Lawsuits are increasingly being used to silence organizations holding power to account, but we won’t be deterred. Advertisers have a right to know how their dollars are being spent by billionaires and trillion-dollar corporations.

The US Senate has released its AI roadmap and … it’s not great. In response, we signed on to the Shadow Report to the US Senate AI Policy Roadmap, put together by civil society orgs and experts, that demonstrates what an AI policy agenda that centers the public interest looks like.
