Team –
This Mental Health Awareness Month, Mad reached out to share just how personal this issue is to her. Now we want to share what she’s doing to help combat it.
During her time in Congress, Mad has advocated for numerous solutions to expand access to mental health resources and combat the stigma of addiction:
- H.R. 773 (Homelessness and Behavioral Health Care Coordination Act) → To authorize a grant program to support local governments, service providers, and healthcare services to help those experiencing homelessness, substance use disorder, and mental health issues.
- H.R. 3432 (Telemental Health Care Access Act) → To expand Medicare’s ability to cover mental and behavioral health services provided through telehealth.
- H.R. 3713 (Mental Health Services for Students Act) → To authorize the Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) Grant Program – which provides access to school-based comprehensive mental health programs.
- H.R. 6451 (Mental Health Justice Act) → To hire, employ, train, and dispatch mental health professionals to respond to emergencies involving one or more persons with a mental illness or an intellectual or developmental disability.

As you can see, Mad is in Congress fighting for solutions to make addressing mental health and substance use disorder easier. She’s working to make resources more accessible, to lower costs for treatment programs, and to eliminate the stigma around both addiction and seeking help.
