John,
Mifepristone, a key drug used in medication abortion, was approved by the FDA in 2000 and has since been used by millions to safely terminate pregnancy and treat miscarriage. In fact, last year it was used in more than half of all abortions in the United States.
Its safety has never been called into question until April of 2023 when an anti-choice organization in Texas filed a baseless lawsuit and a Trump-appointed federal judge ordered the FDA to reverse its approval.
Make no mistake, John, this is exactly what Republicans were hoping would happen when Roe v. Wade was overturned. Without Roe's precedent, anti-choice extremists have worked overtime to attack and threaten millions of Americans' access to abortion on every front.
Despite the overwhelming body of research affirming mifepristone's safety, we can expect these kinds of attacks in our post-Roe landscape. What Republicans can't deny is that the overwhelming majority of Americans are pro-choice and deserve to have access to safe and reliable reproductive care.
We're running a nationwide poll to gauge this community's support of mifepristone. Represent Pennsylvania by answering the question below:
