Politicians hate when you laugh at them for wasting money. They can handle outrage, but they can’t handle mockery.

That’s why, every year, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation hands out golden pig trophies for the worst wasteful spending in municipal, provincial and federal governments.

We’ve given awards to massively wasteful spending like the long gun registry and Bombardier. We’ve also given awards to smaller, sillier waste, like when Montreal spent money clearing snow that wasn’t there.

We filmed this year’s government waste awards show live in Calgary. And let me tell you: the wasteful spending from politicians and bureaucrats was crazier than ever.
