John,
If you’re reading this email, you’ve probably registered to vote.*
But did you know that tens of millions of voters across the country have been purged from the voter rolls in the last four years? Many people have been removed from the voter rolls for something as trivial as a typo, “inactivity,” or even because they didn’t respond to a piece of mail from the registrar. This is a major problem.
Mass voter purges are increasingly becoming a standard tool in right-wing voter suppression efforts, and they disproportionately target voters in Democratic districts and people of color. (shocking, we know 🙄)
But it’s not just a problem in red states — just two years ago, before updated pro-voter legislation went into full effect, California only scored a 44 out of a 100 on an analysis of their voter removal practices. Everyone should check their voter registration status before the next election.
Even if you’re positive that you are registered, we need your help to let as many people as possible know about these voter purges. Not everyone is as politically engaged as you are, and we know that people are more likely to vote if they talk to their friends who vote about voting! So be that friend and make sure all your friends and family are fully informed — take the pledge to check your registration and spread the word.
We need every single vote possible to take on Big Oil and their greedy lobbyists. You can make a huge difference today by making sure you and everyone in your social circle are ready to vote in November.
Let’s get this done!
-The Team at Jane PAC
* If you’re not registered, there’s no shame in that! Registering to vote is quick and easy, and you can do it right now at vote.gov.
