Friend,
The past two weeks have been full of Republican wins in Congress.
I joined my colleagues to Back the Blue with rock-solid legislation that
fights the Defund the Police movement head-on. We took steps to detain and
deport illegal immigrant criminals and we took down Democrat-led attempts to
undermine the security and legitimacy of our elections.
Here’s a brief update on what we’ve been able to accomplish for America:
Supporting Law Enforcement During Police Week
During National Police Week last week, I proudly stood with my colleagues in
the House to pass a series of bills supporting our brave law enforcement
officers. It's my duty as your representative to stand up for those who keep
our communities safe.
Here are a few highlights of the bills we passed:
* The Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act: Ensures that any
illegal immigrant who assaults a cop is detained and deported.
* The Resolution Condemning Violence Against Police: Condemns efforts to
defund the police.
* The Police Our Borders Act: Addresses how the border crisis impacts law
enforcement.
* The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act:
Improves data collection on anti-police attacks.
* The Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act: Expands the
rights of retired and active officers to carry firearms.
I also cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act, which will enhance Social
Security benefits for first responders, ensuring that we care for those who
have protected and served our communities while also allowing America to
attract and retain the next generation of first responders.
Ensuring Only American Citizens Vote in Our Elections
This week I joined my Republican colleagues to protect the integrity of our
elections with a resolution that disallows non-citizens and illegal immigrants
from voting in our elections.
This bill bars noncitizens from voting in elections, repealing the “Local
Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022.”
Only U.S. citizens should have a say in our democracy—that should be common
sense— but sadly theDemocrats who have caused the border crisis have made a
concerted effort to turn illegal immigrants into voters. This measure stops
that agenda in its tracks.
Honoring Memorial Day
As a U.S. Army veteran, Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices
made by our servicemen and women. It's a time to honor the courage of those who
have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our nation and a reminder that the
cost of freedom is dear. Let's take this day to remember those who have fallen
and recommit ourselves to defending the values they died to protect.
Fighting for you,
John James
