These things are both true:

• Our nation has made incredible strides toward freedom and equality for LGBTQ+ people.
• Extremists have recently stepped up their attacks on our rights in a way that is ugly and dangerous.

Here in Kansas, our Legislature passed a bill to prevent transgender kids from accessing the health care they need. That was just a few weeks after the Kansas GOP released a platform that condemns same-sex marriage.

Meanwhile, some of my colleagues in Congress are using their power to attack LGBTQ+ Americans at the federal level — attempting to deny us equality under the law when it comes to health care, education, and basic safety.

I want you to know that I still believe this is a fight we’ll win. The LGBTQ+ community has always shown determination and grit, and we’ll keep pushing forward. And I, personally, will keep pushing forward for freedom, equality, safety, and dignity for every single American.

If you’re with me in this fight, then I am humbly asking for your support today in my re-election campaign — because, truly, there is so much on the line, including our ability to pass legislation protecting LGBTQ+ Americans from discrimination and extremism.
