Friend, here’s the situation on SB4:
First: Texas lawmakers and Governor Greg Abbott passed an unconstitutional, discriminatory law allowing Texas police to arrest, jail, and deport migrants even suspected of crossing the border.
Then: The Biden administration sued to block the law from going into effect. The case made its way to the Supreme Court, where it was allowed to go into effect for just a few hours until being paused again by a federal court.
Now: Another decision is expected to come any day that could again allow SB4 to take effect in Texas while litigation plays out. We don’t know what the decision will be, but it’s critical that we start preparing.
This law is certain to open up Black and brown people and immigrants to racial profiling, discrimination, harassment, and danger. We must continue to fight back to strike down SB4!
Other states are watching this decision closely. Florida, Arizona, and Kansas are following Governor Abbott’s lead and trying to set up their own deportation machines. If the courts allow SB4 to go into effect, we’ll see similar laws all around the country. We MUST fight back now.
