We can no longer allow politics to get in the way of public safety.
I believe that we urgently need common sense and an all-of-the-above approach to keep our communities safe.
Crime is top of the minds of Marylanders and Americans, but – like most pressing issues of the day – Washington politicians only offer platitudes and point fingers. That must change.
We have to be tough on crime AND tough on the causes of crime to make any real progress.
That’s why this week, I released a 10-point Crime Plan that includes bipartisan common sense solutions the federal government can urgently adopt that will make a difference and save lives:
1. Take Repeat Violent Criminals Off The Streets
2. Get Guns Out Of The Hands Of Violent Criminals And The Mentally Ill
3. Respect And Re-fund Police And Law Enforcement
4. Let Law Enforcement Do Their Jobs
5. Hold Prosecutors And Senate Confirmed Nominees Accountable
6. Stop Reckless DC Policies That Are Hurting Marylanders
7. Dismantle Drug Trafficking Cartels
8. Dignity, Respect, And Resources For Victims Of Crime
9. Help Those Who Have Served Their Time Re-enter Society
10. Provide Mental Health And Substance Abuse Treatment For Those Who Need It
In the Senate, I will make it a top priority to bring people from both parties together to get this done, support our law enforcement, and make our communities safer.
Will you endorse my common sense crime plan? The more signatures we get, the louder our message will be to the politicians in Washington that CRIME IS NOT A PARTISAN ISSUE. We can and must come together to save lives and protect our communities.
I will take the same approach to crime in the Senate as I did while serving for eight years as governor. This includes taking action to support law enforcement and hold criminals accountable while advancing long-term reforms to ensure every Marylander has access to a world-class education, good-paying jobs, and economic opportunity.
If you have time today, please take a moment to add your name to endorse my 10-point crime plan and help make all of us safer.
When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.
Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.
Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.
I don't aspire to be a United States senator. I don’t need a title and I don’t need a job, but I’m more concerned than ever about the direction of the country and I have become more convinced that I can make a difference by taking the approach and style of leadership I had during my eight years as governor to Washington.
It’s no surprise this mindset has made me a target of the Washington partisans. Despite early polls showing a lead, I know I’m the underdog in this race. And that’s why your support TODAY is so crucial.
For eight years, we proved that the toxic politics that divide our nation didn’t need to divide our state, and we got results! Let’s get back to work again and send a message to Washington that will be heard loud and clear across the country!
