Speaker Johnson Prepares to Invite Israeli PM Netanyahu to Speak Before Joint Session
To the chagrin of Democrats. Times of Israel: The Republican leader of the US House of Representatives said on Tuesday he was close to inviting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address lawmakers even if the Senate’s Democratic leader did not go along. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters at the Capitol he had given Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer until Tuesday to sign a letter inviting Netanyahu to address a joint meeting. “If not, we’re going to proceed and invite Netanyahu just to the House,” Johnson said ( Times of Israel). I24News: Netanyahu “should be focused on freeing hostages, not on charming legislators,” said Connecticut Democratic Congressman Jim Himes. “It’s not a good time,” said Congressman Dan Kildee. Congresswoman and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also said “no” to the proposition of Netanyahu speaking to a joint session. This comes as support for Israel has become increasingly divided along party lines in the US, with prominent Democratic lawmakers voicing outright opposition to support for the Jewish state ( I24News).

Germany Promises to Arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu if He Steps Foot in Country
Daily Mail: Germany will arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he enters the country amid allegations of war crimes by the International Criminal Court, a spokesperson has confirmed. Steffen Hebestreit, a spokesperson for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, confirmed the country would ‘abide by the law’ and arrest the under-fire Israeli leader should he visit the EU nation. This comes after British prosecutor Karim Khan announced on Monday that he is seeking warrants for Netanyahu, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas terror chiefs including Yahya Sinwar, the ruler in Gaza who masterminded October 7 ( Daily Mail). Jerusalem Post: The International Criminal Court was formed in response to Nazi Germany’s extermination of 6 million Jews. Germany is a generous donor to the ICC. The possibility that a German government would arrest and deport an Israeli Prime Minister and defense minister if they stepped foot on German soil in light of the country’s Hitler movement history has triggered shocking reports in the German media ( Jerusalem Post).

UN’s International Court of Justice Prepares to Hand Down Decision on Israel’s War in Gaza
Times of Israel: The United Nations’ top court said it would rule Friday on a request by South Africa to order Israel to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as Hebrew media reported that officials believe judges will at least partly accept the demand. South Africa has petitioned the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for emergency measures to order Israel to “cease its military operations in the Gaza Strip” including in the city of Rafah, where it is pressing an offensive. Multiple Hebrew media outlets reported Thursday that Israel was preparing for the ruling and was concerned that it would include an order to either stop the operation in Rafah or stop the war entirely ( Times of Israel). I24News: This marks South Africa’s fourth application to the Court since Israel declared war on Hamas following the October 7 attack. If the ICJ rules in favor of South Africa, the decision will be brought before the UN Security Council, where Israel anticipates a US veto ( I24News).

Nation of Colombia to Establish Embassy in Palestine Just After Closing Israeli Embassy
Reuters: Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the opening of an embassy in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo told journalists on Wednesday. “President Petro has given the order that we open the Colombian embassy in Ramallah, the representation of Colombia in Ramallah, that is the next step we are going to take,” Murillo said. Murillo added he believes more countries will soon begin backing the recognition of a Palestinian state before the United Nations, efforts Colombia has already supported. At the beginning of this month, Petro, who had already recalled the Colombian ambassador from Tel Aviv, said he would break diplomatic relations with Israel over its actions in Gaza. The embassy was closed on May 3 ( Reuters). Times of Israel: Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused Petro of being “antisemitic and full of hate” following Colombia’s decision to cut ties with the Middle Eastern country, saying the move was a reward for Hamas ( Times of Israel).

Spain’s Second Deputy PM Calls for Eradication of Israel
Daily Wire: Shortly after Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced his nation would formally recognize a “Palestinian state” as of May 28, Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz posted a video proclaiming the Hamas terrorist slogan calling for the complete eradication of Israel. Diaz shared the video, which began with her celebrating Spain’s decision to recognize a “Palestinian state” — across several social media platforms. In the video, she went on to say that recognizing the Palestinians’ right to self-governance was only a first step — and argued that Israel should be held to account for the “genocide” in Gaza ( Daily Wire). Yolanda Diaz: Recognition of the Palestinian State is a matter of human rights and international legality. The situation in Palestine forces us not to stay here. We have to continue working to end the genocide and achieve a ceasefire ( X).

Illinois Democrats Want to Call Criminals “Justice-Impacted Individuals” Rather Than “Offenders”
Fox News: Illinois Democratic state lawmakers are aiming to change the word “offender” to “justice-impacted individual” with a new bill. House Bill 4409 will amend the Illinois Crime Reduction Act of 2009 to change “references from ‘offenders’ to ‘justice-impacted individuals,'” among other changes, according to a summary of the bill. The bill passed the Illinois State Senate on Tuesday and is currently headed to Illinois Gov. J. P. Pritzker’s desk ( Fox News). Daily Caller: Republican State Sen. Steve McClure argued that “There seems to be this rush to take away all accountability for people who commit crimes” and that “apologizing for the criminal, the person who chooses to commit crimes to the detriment of our victims … is absolutely incredible” ( Daily Caller).

Biden’s DOJ Sued for Attempting to Imprison Pro-Life Activist Mark Houck
Just the News: Pro-life activist Mark Houck this week sued the Department of Justice alleging “malicious prosecution” and an array of other wrongdoings by the government during its prosecution of him on federal charges. A jury acquitted Houck of all charges in January of last year. He had been accused of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, with prosecutors alleging that he “forcefully shoved” Bruce Love, a Planned Parenthood volunteer. The case drew national attention over the FBI’s 2022 arrest of Houck in front of his family ( Just the News). Life News: And now Houck is suing, seeking $4.3 million related to the “faulty” investigation led to an excessively forceful arrest and a “malicious and retaliatory prosecution” that has severely impacted their entire family. Houck and his family filed two claims for a total of $4.35 million in damages due to the FBI’s unconstitutional, “malicious,” and “corrupt” use of “excessive force” ( Life News).

DC Board of Elections Coaches Illegal Immigrants How to Vote
UncoverDC: The DC Board of Elections (DCBOE) held a town hall on April 30, 2024, to train resident noncitizens on how to vote in local elections. A slideshow linked on the DCBOE website shows the content used by the BOE to walk illegal aliens through noncitizen resident voting rights and responsibilities and procedures for noncitizen voter registration. There was also a separate training on April 10 called “Non-Citizen Voting Education Virtual Training,” according to FOIA documents obtained by Judicial Watch. The DC law references a 1996 bill passed by Congress called the Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. The 1996 bill included a provision making it a criminal offense for a noncitizen to vote in federal elections. However, municipalities seem to be exploiting a loophole, one that fails to stipulate whether noncitizens can vote in local elections ( UncoverDC).

China Launches Military Training Exercises Around Taiwan
Daily Wire: Communist China launched a large-scale military exercise around Taiwan on Thursday, saying it is a “powerful punishment” for Taiwan’s “separatist acts.” The drills come just two days after Taiwan swore in its new president Lai Ching-te, whom Beijing has labeled a “dangerous separatist.” China’s military drills involve fighter jets with live ammunition, destroyers, frigates, and missile speedboats, according to a Chinese state broadcasting network. The fighter jets reportedly carried out mock strikes against “high-value military targets.” China said the military drills will continue for two days ( Daily Wire). Townhall: Essentially, it’s training for an invasion of Taiwan that would come as part of Xi’s “reunification,” a nice-sounding word that would involve destroying the ROC’s freedom by force in a full-blown military operation against Taiwan ( Townhall). Reuters: Taiwan mobilized its military and said it was confident it could protect the island ( X).

Remember, Memorial Day is More Than An Excuse for a Day Off
Hugh Hewitt: In just a few days time, we will be marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day—the invasion of Normandy. 130,000 Allies crossed the channel that day. Among them. 54,000 Americans. 2,700 died that day alone. We’ve called them “the greatest generation” for a reason. But the spirit that motivated them has been exemplified by those that had gone before them … and those that have served so faithfully after them as well. This legacy of those who have paid the ultimate price ought to renew our commitment to what George Washington called, “the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” This Memorial Day weekend, let’s express our gratitude to those who have served and those have died for us. And: Let us renew our own commitment to what our first President called, “the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty” ( Townhall Review).
