Dear Friend,
Bringing home federal dollars to San Diego is one of my biggest responsibilities – but it’s never easy, especially with the makeup of the House right now. That’s why I’m incredibly proud that I secured $13.5 million in federal funds for 15 local San Diego projects in FY 2024. These projects will help address homelessness, support children, prevent wildfires, care for service members and veterans, build beautiful community spaces, and more. Now, we’re working on funding the federal government for FY 2025, and I’m pushing for another $27.5 million for local community projects that would improve our infrastructure after January’s flooding, help unhoused individuals, expand access to child care, and more. For a full list of projects that we funded in FY 2024, click here, and to see what we’re fighting for this fiscal year, click here.
There are also other opportunities to get federal dollars to make your big, creative ideas happen and improve the lives of our families, friends, and neighbors – through federal grants! You can find up-to-date information on open federal grants here. (Pro-tip: bookmark that link for future reference!) Here are some of the great grant opportunities currently available:
CHIPS Manufacturing USA Institute
Earlier this month, the Department of Commerce issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to seek proposals from eligible applicants for activities to establish and operate a CHIPS Manufacturing USA institute focused on digital twins for the semiconductor industry. The CHIPS for America Program anticipates up to about $285 million for a first-of-its-kind institute focused on the development, validation, and use of digital twins for semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, assembly, and test processes. Concept papers are due by 8:59 pm Pacific Time on June 20, 2024 at Grants.gov. Applications received after this deadline will not be reviewed or considered. Click here for more information about the NOFO and application process. Click here for the grants.gov link.
Community Compass Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Program
The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced about $91 million in available funding including $88.5 million in FY 2024 funding for the Community Compass Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Program (Community Compass) and up to $2.5 million in FY 2023 Departmental Technical Assistance funding for the Thriving Communities Technical Assistance program (TCTA). HUD's TCTA program helps local governments address pressing housing needs by identifying land for housing development near transportation projects; developing preservation and anti-displacement strategies; identifying and implementing reforms to reduce barriers to location-efficient housing; and improving coordination and supporting a holistic approach to housing and transportation. The application deadline is 8:59 pm Pacific Time on June 20, 2024. Click here for more information about the NOFO and application process. Click here for the grants.gov link.
Community Economic Development Projects
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Community Services (OCS) will solicit applications to award about $15.2 million in Community Economic Development (CED) discretionary award funds to Community Development Corporations (CDC) for well-planned, financially viable, and innovative projects to enhance job creation and business development for low-income individuals. CED awards will be made as part of a broader strategy to address objectives such as decreasing dependency on federal programs, chronic unemployment, and community deterioration in urban and rural areas. Electronically submitted applications must be submitted by 8:59 pm Pacific Time on July 17, 2024. Click here for more information about the NOFO and application process.
