John,
I came across an interesting statistic a few days back.
Less than 7% of congressional members are moms with minor children.
This is, unfortunately, probably not a surprising statistic. Running for Congress is already hard enough without having to worry about money, time away from your kids, and childcare.
Now, add gender and age to the equation. If I had a dollar each time someone noted those factors or my having kids as a concern for holding office, I’d have enough money to beat Jack Bergman in November.
These disparities are why we end up with more men in Congress preventing investments in childcare access, gutting women’s healthcare, and neglecting families in rural communities like ours.
I know we can win in November, but we need a concerted grassroots effort to get us there. Polling shows Jack Bergman’s extreme views are out of step with Upper and Northern Michiganders. Strong fundraising is how we send him packing.
I’m counting on you, John. Will you chip in $10 to my campaign right now?
