What items are accepted?
Kitsap households can bring one carload of scrap metal and small household electronics. We’ll accept most household electronics powered with a cord or batteries and scrap metal, including aluminum, copper, brass, insulated copper, aluminum wire, stainless steel, iron, steel, cast iron, tin/light iron, steel rebar, or lead.
For examples and more information on accepted items, please visit our Public Waste and Recycling Events webpage [ [link removed] ]. There are some electronics and metals we cannot take, so please be sure to check our "not accepted" list on the website.
Prepare before you go
Before heading to the Fairgrounds, make sure to:
* Only bring items that can be safely carried by two people.
* Secure your vehicle load for safer roads with cargo straps, tarps, and nets. It’s the law, and the right thing to do.
*
Load your vehicle so electronics can be removed first and scrap metal second.
Material specific instructions:
* Drain all items, such as yard care tools, of gas and other fluids.
* Bag printer and toner cartridges to prevent ink leaks.
* You’re responsible for wiping data from computers, phones, hard drives, and other data storage devices.
To help reduce wait times at the event, please:
* Unstrap and uncover your load while waiting in line.
* Remain in your vehicle while event staff unload your items.
What happens to the recycled items?
Scrap metals are sorted by property and sold to mills to produce raw material that are then made into new products. Electronics are either refurbished and given a second life or broken down into many different commodity categories and the precious metals are extracted. Read about 1 Green Planet's electronics recycling process and certifications on their website [ [link removed] ].
Where to recycle items not accepted
If you’re unable to attend the event or you have items that aren’t accepted, no problem! Scrap metal and electronics recycling is available year-round in Kitsap County. Visit Recycle.Kitsap.Gov [ [link removed] ] to search for a recycle location.
