When innocent lives are at risk, thoughts and prayers will never be enough in the fight against gun violence.

We know that common-sense gun safety legislation WORKS. New York has some of the strongest gun safety laws in the country – and it shows. Our state boasts one of the lowest rates of gun violence.

This is the kind of progress we can achieve nationwide if we take decisive action, but right now, too many extreme lawmakers seem content prioritizing the deep-pocketed gun lobby over the American people who they were elected to represent and protect.

Look, here’s the bottom line: We need universal background checks, closing dangerous loopholes, and we need to get weapons of war off of our streets. These aren't radical ideas — they're common-sense solutions that are proven to work and save lives. We owe it to the victims of senseless gun violence, and to their families, to take action.

Protecting kids from gun violence has been a priority for Nancy for years.
